SC orders inquiry into Madras HC clash

The Supreme Court has appointed retired apex court judge Justice B Srikrishna to inquire into the recent clash between lawyers and police in the Madras High Court premises.The committee will submit its interim report within two weeks to the apex court.The SC also asked the state government to transfer four top police officials over the issue.

The seven point terms of reference of the Srikrishna Commission, announced on Friday, has evoked a negative response from the leaders of the pro-Telangana movement. The Union home ministry announced the terms of reference of the five-member committee and set a deadline of December 31. The ministry asked the committee to look in to the demands for a separate Telangana and for an undivided Andhra Pradesh.

The Centre on Friday announced seven-point terms of reference for the Telangana committee, saying the panel will consult all sections of people in Andhra Pradesh, especially political parties, on the demand of a separate state. The five-member committee, headed by Justice (Retired) B N Srikrishna, will "examine the situation in Andhra Pradesh with reference to demand for a separate state of Telangana as well as the demand for maintaining the present status of united AP.
